Greetings fellow Monster/Horror enthusiasts, and welcome to the 1st entry in our new blog series counting down until Halloween and beyond: The Monster World Tour! I thought of this idea when an idea bit me while looking at our latest design line: Do monsters, as we classically define them, actually exist, and if they do, where can you find them? The first monsters creeping out of the shadows is our favorite immortal, blood drinking, sexy, highly intelligent zombie: The Vampire.
What is a Vampire?
We’ll begin each analysis with a quick summary of how to classify the respective monster, in this case, the vampire. The trope codifier for vampires is usually Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and that character isn’t far from the mark. At its core, vampires are any monsters that must sustain themselves by feeding on other beings or creatures, that feeding providing and enhancing their abilities beyond that of their species’ base limits. Notice I didn’t say “blood,” like the classic Dracula, because vampires are known to feed on a variety of nourishments, depending on the version we’re discussing, which can range from life energy to heat energy. The important thing to remember is for a vampire to live, they have to take something that’ll make you die (even though some can take a portion of what they need or create substitutes to align themselves more to the light-side), they scarily maintain their intelligence while transformed, yet not getting their sustenance sends them into a monstrous rage until their hunger/thirst is sated.
Are Vampires Real/Where Are They?
This brings us to the premier question you’ve been waiting for: Are vampires real? Yes! As a matter of fact vampires do exist in our modern world. But where can you find them, you may ask? There are vampire covens in Atlanta, Georgia and New Orleans, Louisiana, which has a rich history of vampires and the occult, but they’re not the blood sucking, sharp-fanged monsters you’d expect them to be.
If you spoke to Maven Lore of New Orleans (link to article down below), you’d learn vampires are still avoidant because they’re fearful of public perception, but they don’t stalk victims at night for blood. Rather, they believe they need to feed on other, non-lethal energies to survive, and they come together to be a part of a community where they feel socially accepted.

Feeling the need to feed, or to be socially accepted by others sharing your need for certain energies? Visit the famous Boutique du Vampyre in New Orleans or seek the Atlanta Vampire Alliance. While you’re at it, continue to show your support for Ammit’s Corner (and your vampire allegiance) by buying a vampire T-shirt, or follow us on Facebook or Instagram. Stay safe out there my fellow Monsters, and Peace out…
